Ooma Blocks More Than 1 Million Unwanted Callers With Its Expanded Blacklisting Capability

CES, LAS VEGAS, NV - Tuesday, January 6th, 2015

Ooma®, Inc., a leading smart business and home communications platform, is making a new addition to the popular blacklisting feature of its home phone service. Ooma’s new Expanded Blacklist blocks calls from more than 800,000 known robo callers and telemarketers.

“We’re proud of being ranked the No. 1 home phone service in America for four years running and we’re constantly looking for ways to innovate and add more value for our subscribers,” said Dennis Peng, Vice President of Product Management for Ooma. “This massive expansion of our blacklisting capabilities will further prevent Ooma subscribers from being disturbed in their homes by unwanted callers.”

Ooma already blocks around 1 million unwanted calls per month through its existing Community and Personal Blacklists, which are being used by more than 70 percent of Ooma Premier subscribers. Community Blacklist blocks tens of thousands of known telemarketing calls by crowdsourcing input from Ooma users and Personal Blacklist lets subscribers create their own custom list of numbers to block.

The Expanded Blacklist is now available for all Ooma Premier customers. Ooma Telo customers with basic service can upgrade to Premier for $9.99 per month to access blacklisting as well as more than 25 other advanced features, including integration with Nest home monitoring devices and voicemail-to-email forwarding.
