i finally got telo to power the house phone jacks so one more step toward conclusion. Now everything working seemingly correctly except if i call the number assigned by ooma from my cell phone, the call immediately goes to the ooma voicemail, it does not ring the number at all. Is there a solution to this one?

Is the little envelope icon on the Telo red or blue? If it is red, that means your system is in do not disturb mode. Press and hold the icon for about 3-4 seconds and it will turn blue. Incoming calls should work then.

yes the envelope was red. i pushed it as you indicated, it turned blue, called my number and was still immediately switched to the ooma voice mail the first time. when i tried again it rang through so i assume it is fixed.

i have one other question you could probably answer. in addition to rolling two home phone numbers into the ooma, i also have a call box out at our gate so when someone arrives they can push a call button, i can answer the phone and either talk to them or press 9 to open the gate and let them in. it occurred to me once i got ooma working within the house wiring that there was a possibility that if the gate call button was pushed it would provide its own electrical signal within the wiring that could shut down ooma and likely voide the warranty. it would seem like i need to wire the gate into an empty phone circuit like the line left vacant when i adopted ooma. any thoughts?

thanks much for your help.
