I just got started with ooma, but I cannot get a local number. I used to have a land line, but canceled that a few months ago. Can't I port a local number without setting up a local service? Qwest has tons of local numbers, so why can't ooma port one of there available ones (or even my canceled one)? Should I call qwest and see if they will activate my number so it can be ported?

By the way, if I call my old number it says it is no longer in service, and gives my forwarding phone number to call.

I saw another posting that had someone purchase a pre-paid cell phone (with local number) and had that number ported. Give it a try.

I doubt there will be any cell phones with my local numbers. I live close to a city, but just over the state line, so I am in another state, and there is no city close to me in my state.
