Porting while the old service has the number forwarded?

Post by Aveamantium » Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:33 am

I'm planning on porting my Viatalk number over to ooma here in the near future. In the meantime I have my Viatalk number forwarded to my ooma number. My question is do you need to turn off this number forward before the port takes place? I read somewhere that a number port can be held up if features like number forwarding are active?

When I ported from Comcast DV I had my number forwarded prior to the port and had no issues with it.

Others have reported problems with forwarding their ported number to Ooma while the port is taking place. Like the above poster, I ported my number from Vonage and had it forwarded to my Ooma number the entire time with no difficulties at all.

Thank you both for your quick responses! I'll just leave it as is then and start the porting process!

One caveat though, on the day your number actually ports, your number will likely be out of service for several hours while the port is in progress.

Yeah, I do remember that when I ported from Sunrocket to Viatalk... Good to know though!
