Buying OOMA on Amazon.com - Price Variations

Post by Neubiee » Thu Apr 16, 2009 5:16 pm

Why does the price on Amazon.com keep changing everyday? It ranges anywhere from $199 to $239!

So far I've convinced 3 of my family members to switch to OOMA. 4 more to go! I've been buying them on Amazon.com. But price seems to change at least twice a day! I made sure it was being sold by Amazon and not third parties.

If you are a Costco member, current price is $219 with a 6 month trial of Premier. Plus, you get the if you aren't happy you can get a refund forever warranty. Not a bad deal.

For some reason, when I bought mine from Amazon, it was listed for $199 but was ultimately billed at $188. Never figured out why. It was also through a third party - Best Seller 21.

Beware of buying from third-parties off of Amazon. We have recently posted a warning about unauthorized sellers of the product.

He's right. It's now listed as $209.70 and it's definitely from Amazon, not a 3rd party. It was $199 last time I checked as well as when I bought it.

Costco.com is certainly a good deal. $219 and I believe you do not need to be a member to buy from the web site.
I believe I chose Amazon because I didn't have to pay sales tax and paid $199 flat. Costco would have been $240 with tax. It would still have been a $10 savings with Costco, though.

Today an Ooma core at Amazon is - $200.92. Which is less than a buck more than $199.99.

The price has been up and down within about $5 from $199 at Amazon for a few months.

that's what I'm wondering- what triggers these price variations?

I've noticed that every time Costco sells out, literally within hours Amazon hikes their price.

Once Costco has more units to sell, Amazon's price droops lower.

Yay competition.
