Ah. I expected to hear it over the phone that I used for dialing the code. I'm never near the Telo when using a phone, but I'll try that and report back by editing this post.

******** Edit ****** it works! I wonder why they didn't play it into the phone too? Perhaps they didn't think of it. Or maybe the hardware couldn't do that.

It comes from the Telo speaker. Is the speaker volume turned up?
