fax and data, hub or telo?

Post by EricJRW » Sun May 08, 2011 7:52 am

My brother-in-law is contemplating an ooma device (after my glowing endorsement). But he has the need to send/receive faxes as well as use a credit card machine.

Is there any thought on which ooma device supports fax and data better?

Thanks,

Eric

I've used both - they work equally well. In general, VoIP is not a reliable way to send faxes or to use credit card processing machines. For fax machines, you need to configure the machine use use the prefix *99, reduce the transmission rate to the lowest possible, for eg. 9600 bps, and turn of error correction. You'd need to do the equivalent for the other.

Thanks... I figured it's not ideal, and I don't know how much he plans to do... But I'll make sure he takes it for a good spin before committing.

I suspect he'll end up with a telo, since it's the newer model.
