Cable & Phone not working simultaneously.

I have a motorola modem SB5101 and I access the internet via comcast cable.
I am unable to use both the internet and the ooma at the same time.
If i unplug the modem power, turn off the computer, reapply power, i am able to reboot and use the ooma.
As well, i can unplug the modem power, turn on the computer, and reapply power to the modem and the internet
will work but not the ooma.
Does this spell router required?
i tried to access the setup.ooma.com and was not able to connect to that page. (with the internet working).

current setup is modem --ooma--computer
product is the core, only using Hub atm.

On the back of the SB5101 there are four connections, power, cable in, USB out and ethernet out.
Are you sure you are not using the USB out connection to your computer and the ethernet out connection to your ooma?
A connection like I described would cause the exact symptoms you described.

When you can, connect to the Ooma setup page http://setup.ooma.com and go to the network page. Click the radio button for "Use built in MAC address" and then click update. Power cycle the modem.

That's been known to help in those situations.

yep was using usb and ethernet. got rid of usb and all working fine.
