Great!!!

Pulled the blue wires off and lost the dial tone. I assume that I should also disconnect the orange ones just to make sure something doesn't get powered on the second line.

I was wondering why there is a telco interface box but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Any ideas?

That box looks like something from the cable company or similar. Not traditional POTS I don't think.
