Universal Plug and Play not working?

Post by happycamper » Sun Sep 19, 2010 5:30 pm

I have a PlayOn server running on my desktop. It can stream Netflix and other video to my iPod touch/iPhone, even when I'm not on the home network.

However, I need the server to be able to configure itself correctly.

Since UP&P doesn't seem to set up correctly, how can I manually set port forwarding for my desktop computer?

Which is your setup:
1. modem > router > [Telo + pc]
2.modem > Telo > switch > [ Telo + pc ] (i.e. no router)
3. modem > Telo > router > [ pc ]

The basic is you need to know the port(s) that your PlayOn server uses. Then setting up port forwarding rule(s) to forward those port(s) to the ip address of your pc with the server.

in 1. you need to setup the rule in your router.
in 2. you need to setup the rule in the Telo.
in 3. you need a rule in the Telo to forward to the router ip, and a second rule in the router--same as 1.

To set up portforwarding rule in Telo: in ooma setup page, click on the Advanced tab, and then click on the button 'Add new rule' at the bottom of the page. The process is pretty straight forward.
You need your router manual to set up port forward in the router.
