Dialing With Computer

Post by mdmdiv » Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:41 pm

Can I dial with my network computer? I just installed a Telo with my Fiber internet modem/router plugged into the Telo and my network computer into the Telo. Can I use the telephony functions in Windows on my network computer to dial through ooma? If so, how?

It sounds like the Windows-based phone you're describing functions like a speakerphone, or perhaps a headset phone. This should work with Ooma if you treat the Ooma phone line the same as you would a regular analog phone line. Connect a phone cord (with standard RJ-11 modular plugs) between the modem output jack and an Ooma phone jack.

If you're looking to establish a modem data connection, rather than a voice connection, configure the modem software to add the prefix *99 to whatever phone number it calls to make the data connection.
Ooma customer since November 2009.
Formerly employed at another VoIP company.
My opinions are my own.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
