Google Voice Extensions

Post by dmclone » Thu Apr 29, 2010 8:23 am

Maybe I don't understand the concept but I'm completely confused.

I have both a Google Number as well as an OOMA number. I've given out my Google number to everyone and I like the number itself. So when someone calls google voice knows to auto foward that call to my OOMA number.

Then i read this

http://www.ooma.com/support/knowledgeba ... extensions

It shows this

But when I go to the OOMA set-up it says:

"Google Voice Extensions requires a phone number to be dedicated to your Google Voice calls. You have no extra phone numbers setup. Please click here to add a phone number to your account."

When I click on "add a phone number" it tries to find me a new number.

What am I missing?

The key word is "dedicated". The number that Ooma uses for GVE is a "Google Voice Virtual Number" (GVVN), and cannot be your primary Ooma number or a second number you have assigned to a Telo Handset. The GVVN can only be used for GVE, nothing else. I wish it was not this way, but that's the way it is at this time.
