HD Handset Call Screening (RING vs Yes)

Post by sbwb » Fri May 10, 2013 3:55 pm

Does anyone know what the difference is between the RING and YES setting under Call Screening. When I asked Ooma they did not know and said they need to look into this.

"Ring" = "Screen if ring on".

Not that "Yes" will produce any sound while screening when ring is off.

Correct, so "Ring" means only pop the voicemail screening window when the ringer is on. The "Yes" setting means pop that window regardless of the ringer setting. The "Ring" setting was useful back when the screening volume was still controlled by the speaker volume (to suppress screening when ringer is off).

However in bug 14443 a change was made to have the ring volume control the screening volume, as the screening phase is really an extension of the ringing phase. So this is why screening is silent when using "Yes" and the ringer is off.

I will enter a bug to remove the "Ring" setting as it is no longer needed. Thank you for the question.
