Ooma charges $20 to change ougoing caller ID!?

Post by david5182 » Fri Mar 08, 2013 6:01 pm

I wanted to update the name on my outbound caller ID. Called Ooma and was told that it would cost me $20!

Did they try to pull a fast one on me or is this a legit charge?

Thanks.

David

Thank you.

It says that Ooma Premier costs $119.99 per year, but they gave it to me for $100. So I guess they are ok then. :)

BTW, murphy, do you know if there is a way to disable Ooma's melodic tone? It is highly annoying, especially after people leave a mesage on my answering machine. There is always Ooma melody after the message.

Not sure if the extra dialtone recorded will be resolved but you can change the Ooma dialtone into regular dialtone by going over to https://my.ooma.com/phone_numbers and then clicking on your Telo...change mode to "Fax." This won't do anything other than change your dialtone; fax mode will kick in only if fax is detected.

There is no question that Ooma has the authority to impose these charges based on their terms and conditions. However, I do not see any particular reason why it could not be handled by the individual subscriber as a selected item on the preference pages. If there is a concern about temporary or repeated changes for "spoofing" purposes, simply limit the ability to make changes to once every six months (or 90 days, or ??).

I've learned a lot here... two months ago I didn't even know how to spell VOIP and now I are one.

It costs Ooma money to update industry Callerid database. That's why the charge to absorb the cost.

Um, some questions. New User, not yet even using Ooma, reading forums, clueless and searching.
I suppose that I wouldn't mind paying but after reading the link I still have no idea what will show on someone else's phone when I call then - A Combination of first and last name - Huh? What does that mean and can I select it, anywhere?

Can I specify it when I ask my current number to be ported - Always assuming that my fax will work or this is just a $350.00+ foray into a waste of money, I MUST have Faxing. Sigh, the web site said I could fax...

Maybe I am just wigging out - If it all works (Faxing) then I will be the happiest clam in the sand but I don't even have all the parts yet!

When you setup your account, make sure the name is what you want to show for outgoing callerid. $20 is only when you want to change that later.

I already 'set up' my account, at least, I think I did, how do I know?
Where is the setting?
