Post by jeff301 » Wed May 06, 2009 6:20 am

i'm getting a delay (we talk over each other). it's very annoying. is there a setting that will fix this? my download speed is: 10.94 Mb/s, up: 2.83 Mb/s, ping: 25ms.

We need more info. Run a speed test here and post details.

i've tried to log into the recommended test site and i get message that windows blocked the software because it can not verify the publisher. i'm running the latest version of java, and have enabled every active x control i can find in internet options and info from java site. i contacted my isp (comcast) and got them to run a ping. here is what they reported: 52ms delay, 13200 down load 2200 up load, and 0 packet loss.

Without seeing the other components to your voip test we can't really make any suggestions. There's more to voip than bandwidth tests and this site checks and reports all the issues.

One thing I could ask is:
Do you have ooma in front of the router?
modem-->ooma hub--> router
OR
modem-->router--ooma hub ?

If you have the first setup, try plugging the ooma hub into your router as you would a pc and give that a test.

i have it the first way. modem, ooma, router since this is the way instructions read. i'll try your suggestion. is there a down side to this set-up? you want it: modem, router, ooma right?

In my opinion there is no downside to this setup. I use ooma this way and it works better. If you do need to adjust any kind of Quality of Service it's usually easier to use your router's controls.
Hook it up and let us know if you notice any changes.

i also set up ooma to be after router as suggested. i'll try this for a few days and see if the delay abates.
