Still waiting for Ooma port while number is in limbo.

When the initial completion date in late December came and went, I was concerned and contacted Ooma. They sent me an email saying there was a new estimated completion date, Jan. 3. But the status page had been updated and now showed an estimated completion date of Jan 22.

On or around Jan 3., Time Warner Cable dropped my phone service so we've been unreachable by the old phone number for a couple weeks. Prior to that, calls were being forwarded to our Ooma number.

I've read other posts here and elsewhere that there can be problems when porting a number that had been ported before. We originally got our phone number from Hawaiian Tel and had it ported to OTWC because Hawaiian Tel is prohibited from providing service to the area in Hilo where we moved. Could the delay be a result of the number having to go back to Hawaiian Tel before being ported to Ooma? This would explain the two estimated completion dates. It would have been nice for someone at Ooma to take the time to explain this.

During number porting, the only carriers involved are the losing carrier and the winning carrier. The original carrier, if different from the 2, isn't in the picture. I do not understand what is taking so long though. Just a matter of Ooma's carrier calling TW to see what's up with the port. TW should not have disconnected service until the agreed upon date of port completion; looks like Jan 22 was the agreed date.

Steps in the LNP Porting Process....

Ask Ooma what steps remain (better be 7 and 8); ask them if they are supposed to activate port on 1/22 or 1/3.

Optionally, for your number, ask TW what date they have down as to when the port is supposed to complete (better be when they turned off your service 1/3 and not 1/22). Ask TW if they performed step 6 and when. If TW says the port is supposed to complete on the date your service got turned off (1/3) and your current provider is supposed to take the number (do step 7), let Ooma know.

I have repeatedly told Ooma that TWC has completed the porting out process. Ooma says they're waiting on their carrier. No idea who that is and what their carrier is waiting for. Ooma won't give me any specific info. All they say is we'll let you know. Frustrating and infuriating.

Finally got an email saying port will be complete today, Jan 18. Incredibly, the email says "Please be aware that you may experience downtime the day the port is being completed." It didn't say I may experience downtime the day the port is completed and the two weeks prior as well.

I'm happy this nightmare is coming to an end but I'm unhappy at whoever dropped the ball here. I'm pretty sure many (if not most) people would not port their numbers if they knew they could be without it for over two weeks. The worst is I'll almost certainly never know what happened here.

Mahalo lbmofo and others who offered information and advice! You were more helpful than Ooma support.

port status says complete. it seems like ooma and twc have my service at the same time. but ooma is only half. outgoing calls only shows ported number on ooma. incoming calls when dialing only come up on twc service ooma does no ring but if i call the temp number ooma rings then!
