I don't have a whole house Surge protector, but I'm thinking about it. Last year I had to repair several appliances and electrical devices in our home, due to lighting sticks.

Excellent suggestion. These units are not too difficult to install. Leviton also makes similar units for single-phase and three-phase panels.
