I'm not sure what DECT means so this question maybe non-sensical. But....if you have a DECT handset will it interface with the TELO in the same way that the Ooma handset will? That is, will it be able to do things like check your voicemail, sense if a caller is on line 1 and use line 2 instead, etc. FWIW, I have a very recently manufactured Verizon cordless DECT phone and it can tell me that someone has left a message on an Ooma (non-Telo) Hub.

It won't work the same way as a Telo handset - It should end up working the same way as with your hub though - it won't be married to the Telo like a Telo handset would, but should work the same way as the classic hub as you now use it.
