This would enable travelers out of the country to make US calls free and overseas calls with the "low" Ooma rates. Instead of bring the Ooma hardware with you, one can use the softphone on smart mobile devices or laptops to make the call.

For example, if we can use Fring, SJPhone to access Ooma service, that will be great. Fring can be used for symbian, iPhone, windows mobile, android phones. SJPhone can be used by windows pc, windows mobile. And there are other softphones out there. When there is wifi, you can make your Ooma calls.

Apparently, the idea was already there. Here is the press release from the January 7, 2010 press release:

"iPhone and iPod Touch Calling Application
Ooma customers will be able to download an Ooma iPhone or iPod Touch application to make phone calls over any Wi-Fi network using an iPhone or iPod touch. Ooma’s app allows customers to take their Ooma service on the road with them to make or receive calls from around the world at Ooma’s low-cost international rates."

Although iPhone is a popular phone, Ooma must not neglect other mobile platforms.
