Cannot add to Prepaid Account with Canadian Credit Card

Post by CDN Snowbird » Tue Nov 10, 2009 2:19 pm

Canadians beware... I just bought an ooma telo hoping to enjoy great international rates to Canada while "snowbirding" in Florida. Unfortunately, ooma will not accept a Canadian credit card to top up your prepaid account (required for international calling from the US). Unless you have a credit card issued in the USA, you are out-of-luck. And they tell me they don't accept Visa prepaid or gift cards. Don't get me wrong, I'm keeping my system for local and U.S. calling. It's just too bad they can't give me a comprehensive calling solution. Oh, btw, they advertise it is great for "snow birds". Only "red, white and blue" birds need apply.

I decided to go with CallUSACanada.com for unlimited calls to Canada for $9.95 per month (yes, they accepted my Canadian Credit Card). If anyone has better solutions, I'd love to hear them.

Personally, I'd be using my PalPal account that generates a Master Card CC as you need one when you shop online. There are lots of solutions on the web for your situation.

Or you could just dial out using Google Voice and Ooma and pay $0.00 per month for unlimited calls to Canada.

Thanks Groundhound... Google Voice looks promising... I see it is available "only by invitation" at this time. I submitted my "invitation" request. I'll post results if / when I get registered.
