ATT use to have a "feature"* whereby instead of a call waiting tone, caller ID was spoken to the person on the phone by a text to speech engine. It really was awesome. That is my feature request.

*as cool as it was, it really was like a $12 ATT scam.

My Panasonic phone set has talking caller ID. Not for call waiting, but for 1st line incoming calls. It's sweet.

ATT offered [sold] it as a carrier service: it was audio on the phone call. Every phone heard it. (only you heard it. The person you were talking to did not)

our phone w/ dig answering machine had that as well. must say we miss it. i ditched the huge base station in favor of a sleek "handset-only" 6.0 dual-handset setup since i no longer needed the answering system, etc. even after 3mo of Ooma, we still find ourselves anticipating "hearing" the number that's calling when we hear the phone ring :)
