VoiceMail PIN

I am new to Ooma in my first month. When trying to create a new greeting on Voicemail, I was prompted to create a PIN (for voicemail). I DO NOT want to. I like being able to approach the Ooma Telo and just hitting the "Play" button listen to my messages. Question - is it mandatory to create a voicemail PIN? Thank you.

I've never created a pin and mine works fine.

The PIN is so that you can check your VM away from home (calling your own number, while greeting comes on, press *, then PIN).

Phones connected to your Ooma will not ask for your PIN. Play button on Ooma won't ask for PIN either.
