calls not connecting

I have called my home # a few times and gotten the message - the person you are calling cannot take your call at this time - then I call again and get DH who tells me the phone never rang the first time - but when I check my caller ID - 2 calls show up - this has happened to me twice - I wonder how often it happens to others
