A few articles have said to disconnect the demarc box before plugging VOIP devices into the wall jack.

I have cable internet (not DSL) and can't find the demarc box. DSL was never available in the area.

I currently do not have landline service.

Try it and see. There should be no problems for you. If there is a problem connecting a Scout in another room to the hub, then in rare occasions it is caused by a stray voltage on the line from the telco. Nothing that can hurt ooma though.
