Greeting will not change to new

I have talked with Ooma three different occasions now. No help.

I pick up the handset, push PLAY on OOMA, follow prompts to change
personal greeting, as presented on handset phone. I successfully change it, listen back to my message to make sure it is correct, then
hang up. Then, I call the OOMA phone number, (my business line) and
check to see if the new greeting is now in effect. It never takes effect,
however. The old greeting I recorded over one month ago keeps playing, even though the handset prompts were followed, and it tells
me it has changed. THe old greeting is now not even pertinent to my
business and makes us look bad, like we are too lazy to change our greeting.

IM SO FRUSTRATED. I'd get rid of the system (garbage) but my OOMA
phone number is not one the local phone company can port, and being in
the yellow pages with OOMA number, as well as website and all print ads,
I don't have ability to change until new phone book comes out.

Try following the prompts to back out until you reach the one to make ooma hang up on you. In all cases it is an * to go to the previous menu. The final * causes ooma to hang up on you.

Tried it, had to push star 3 x before it backed out of OOMA system. However, it did not work.

Select option 2, then option 4 to change the type of greeting and then option 4 again to revert to the system generated greeting without the phone number.
Did that work?

Maybe do a hard reset of the ooma box:
power off hub
hold ooma tab down
power on hub, continuing to hold down the ooma tab until lights stop blinking ~ 30-60 seconds
try vm setup again

I had the same problem and the hard reset worked for me.

This is what I had to do and it worked perfectly when I had the same problem a little while ago.
