Port and Configure 2 Lines

Post by jerro » Sat Mar 02, 2013 9:24 am

I'm new to Ooma and need some help. I'm signed up for Ooma Premier and have purchased a Telo, Linx and 3 HD2 handset (2 on backorder). I currently have 2 phone lines (home and home office) and would like to port both. I also have a fax which shares my home office number; the fax is used very little these days. At this time, I have 2 Ooma phone numbers which I assume will be replaced by my ported numbers. It looks like one is assigned to the Telo and the other to the Linx.

Once my numbers are ported, can I configure 1 handset and the fax on the home office number, and the other 2 handsets on the home number?

With Premier, you can keep 2 numbers in your account unless you buy "personal number" add on ($4.99 per number per month for every additional number beyond the 2; the $4.99 won't be charged until you actually add a number into your account beyond the 2).

So usually, when you port a number in, if you already have 2 numbers in the account, the last number showing up on this page https://my.ooma.com/phone_numbers will drop off your acccount. Hence, if you port 2 numbers in, the 2 Ooma assigned numbers you have now will both drop off your account.

If you want to assign a number to ring certain devices only, you'd need to do that on the same phone number page https://my.ooma.com/phone_numbers via "main account" and "private account." For your fax, you'd need to have a physical "phone" port so you'd need either a Telo or Linx in the main or private account that you want to assign the fax to.

Thanks lbmofo. I was able to get the equipment I currently have set up and assigned properly. Next I plan to port my 2 numbers over. Since the first number in the main account is used to log in, etc., and it and my second number will be replaced by my 2 home lines, I assume one of the numbers ported will become my log in number. Is that correct? Can I select which number will become the main account number?

Once you are set with 2 numbers you want in your account, you can call customer service to swap primary/secondary.
You can login to my.ooma.com using either (same password as your current). You can also specify default outgoing callerid being your secondary if you want. https://my.ooma.com/privacy
