Seems "default host" with Apple routers would be same as DMZ. The Ooma wireless adapter should work without doing anything special like this.

A Default Host is an Apple phrase. I think other routers call it something else.
It means an IP address that gets all the incoming traffic sent to it.
Apples says that it is also 'exposed to the Internet'.

Every other router manufacturer calls that the DMZ.
