External HD connected to router - how to setup ooma?

Post by jacobp » Tue Dec 14, 2010 7:18 pm

I have an external HD connected to my Apple Time Capsule router via USB. My itunes collection is on the external HD so that i can access my itunes songs from any other computer on my wireless home network.

Now i have ooma and i have connected it in front of the router so that router's WAN port is connected to the telo's Home Network port.

When i now go to another computer on the network and i run itunes, the computer can "see" all of the songs on the external HD, but when i click play, nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

Place the Ooma device behind the router, and connect all other devices to the router, never to the Ooma. Connect nothing at all behind the Ooma. This is not what Ooma's wacky instructions recommend, but it will cure your problem and prevent many others, while causing none at all.
