QA Engineer

Department: Engineering
Reports to: QA Manager
Location: Sunnyvale, CA

About the position
We are seeking a highly motivated individual passionate about playing a critical role in our QA organization. You will be responsible for testing and validating all aspects of the Products and Services offered by Ooma.

Desired Skills and Experience:

You will also be responsible to define test strategies, test design, Lab setup info, defect tracking, final customer reports, and upper management reports. Additionally, you will be responsible for providing test solutions who will work with cross-functional teams to properly validate the products and services offered to customers in a controlled lab environment.


  • Take ownership of design, develop and author customized test cases to test functionality and features.
  • Execute test plan and provide project management status, risk & schedule to upper management
  • Provide test strategy and schedule to QA Engineering management.
  • Implement technical Lab test solutions to validate various configurations and solutions
  • Review & implement test tools in coordination with Automation/Performance Test teams
  • Escalate the issues to the development team
  • Track and manage defects found during test validation


  • Minimum of 3 years of testing in VOIP/Telco/networking within a Test Engineering organization
  • VOIP Performance test experience is highly desired (Spirent Abacus, IXIA IXVOICE & Empirix NXT)
  • Scripting skills for Automation is desirable in some of the following languages (Python, Perl, TCL, Java, VB or C++)
  • Experience using VOIP test automation tools like sipp and sip protocol test suites is preferred
  • Working in Linux environment and basic Linux administration is plus.
  • Must be able to install, configure and maintain lab environments
  • Must have the proven ability to write and execute clear, organized, detailed test plans and test cases, including the designs of test scripts
  • Experience as customer support engineer is highly desirable, specially in the context of providing technical solutions
  • Experience with a database management and administration is desired
  • Experience with networking (understanding of IP layers 2 & 3 in a Lab environment for troubleshooting purposes), Call signaling and VoIP protocols (SIP) is definitively a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and support multiple projects, ability to lead the projects.
  • Must have Strong communication skills, excellent listening skills, and a strong work ethics
  • Must be a Self starter, motivated, detail oriented, and have the ability to work collaboratively with others


  • BS EE, CS/CE or a related technical field is desirable but not a must if the skill/expertise requested aligns with the position
