The Ooma Mobile App is now available in App Store!

Download the Ooma Mobile App now by visiting the Ooma page in the App Store.

How it works: With the Ooma Mobile App, Ooma customers can make domestic and international calls from an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad over any Wi-Fi or 3G network. By tapping into an active Wi-Fi or 3G connection, Ooma customers can use their Ooma account credentials while on the road to connect calls and bypass the high international calling rates associated with mobile calling plans from major carriers. Check out our Mobile App FAQ for more details.

Savings: The Ooma Mobile App can save Ooma customers up to 90 percent on international calls. Ooma customers can enjoy further savings by reducing their minutes on their calling plans since they can now save minutes by using their Ooma account. In addition, Ooma’s PureVoice Technology uses advanced voice compression to reduce bandwidth usage by 60% minimizing data usage allowing for longer calling times over 3G.

Pricing & Availability: The Ooma Mobile App is priced at $9.99. Calls using the Ooma Mobile App start at 1.9 cents per minute for U.S. calls or applicable rates for international calls. Ooma Premier Customers using the Ooma Mobile app receive 250 minutes of U.S. calling for free every month. For a limited time promotion, Ooma Premier Customers who also subscribe to Ooma’s International plan will get 750 minutes of free calling in the U.S. and to 70 other countries. Use of the Ooma Mobile app requires an Ooma account. A customer must already own an Ooma Hub or an Ooma Telo in order to use the Ooma Mobile app.

U.S. State Department Relies on Ooma in Haiti

June 28th, 2010 @ 9:00 am

We have proudly shared news in the past of the significant cost savings that our customers enjoy. But today, we wanted to let you in on a really inspiring way that Ooma was able to make a difference. The team at Ooma recently discovered that the U.S. Embassy in Haiti selected Ooma to build a phone service after the devastating Haiti earthquake, when everything else, including traditional land line phone service, was destroyed. With Ooma Telo, the embassy was able to offer a secure, reliable and high quality phone line on the ground for soldiers and relief workers (and even some VIPs like two former U.S. presidents). There was no phone network, but there was a broadband network, so VoIP was the logical solution. The embassy team based in Haiti provided Ooma with photos as well as some interesting examples of how our product was used – check out our Ooma in Haiti page for more details. We cannot express what an honor it is to know that Ooma helped to maintain and keep open the critical lines of communication throughout Haiti, back to the U.S. and around the world.

Calling for a Cause: The Results

June 18th, 2010 @ 8:24 am

We’d like to thank everyone that voted and helped us choose a charity to participate in our upcoming donation program. The community has spoken and you have chosen our partner: The American Cancer Society. When someone buys a Telo from the Ooma store, they can “share” the news of their purchase with their social networks on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. It’s as easy as pushing a button! Every time someone shares the news of their purchase with their network, Ooma will donate $2 to The American Cancer Society. The program will be kicking off next week. We hope to raise some serious money for a serious cause. Please help spread the word!

Calling on a Cause; Ooma for Charity

June 11th, 2010 @ 10:05 am

We need your help! Do you like Ooma and do you like helping others in need? Ooma will be kicking off a program that will donate $2 for every sale of the Ooma Telo to a charitable organization. Essentially, when someone buys a Telo from the Ooma store, they can “share” the news of their purchase with their social networks on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. It’s as easy as pushing a button! Every time someone shares the news of their purchase with their network, $2 is donated to charity. We need your help deciding which charity to participate in the program! We’ve narrowed down the list to the following organizations – The American Red Cross, The American Cancer Society, and Grameen. Please vote in our poll to help us choose which organization we should partner with for this program! Voting is open until Thursday, June 17 at 4 p.m. PT. We’ll announce the charity of choice for the program on Friday, June 18. Thank you for your support and good luck voting!

Summer Savings: Ooma Refer a Friend Program

June 1st, 2010 @ 7:11 pm

We’re turning up the heat this summer with a special Refer-A-Friend Reward program. Share some summer savings with a gift of free calling to your family and friends while earning rewards.

When you refer a friend, you won’t just be doing them a favor, you’ll be doing yourself a favor too. Your friend will get $50 off the Ooma Telo and you’ll receive a $25 gift card to Amazon.com.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Go to the Refer a Friend page on My Ooma to share your referral codes with your friends and family. Everyone has three referral codes to send out.
  2. When your friend uses the referral code you sent, they’ll see a $50 discount in their shopping cart. Each code can only be used once.
  3. When your friend completes their purchase, you’ll earn a $25 Amazon gift card! Check back on My Ooma to to see how many gift cards you have earned.

For all the program details, visit the My Ooma Refer a Friend page.

Thank you,
