For those of us who work in Silicon Valley, Silicon Alley, or the high-tech universe in between, the 2007 Crunchies was a big event. Co-hosted by GigaOm, VentureBeat, Read/WriteWeb, and TechCrunch, this was “the first annual competition and award ceremony to recognize and celebrate the most compelling start-ups, internet and technology innovations of the year.” We, at ooma, were totally thrilled to be one of the five finalists selected for the category of “Best New Gadget/Device.”
While we didn’t take top honors at the awards show, we were honored to be nominated in the same category as some of the most exciting consumer devices of the year, including the Apple iPhone and the Nintendo Wii.
For more information, check out the Crunchies Web site.
At ooma, we always regarded the three-year service clause in our Terms & Conditions as a simple principle in action: a general projection of how long an electronic device was expected to last (much like the iPhone® or Tivo®). Our community and consumers, however, have expressed a number of questions and concerns about the three-year service clause. In an effort to be responsive, we have modified our Terms & Conditions to offer unlimited calling to any number in the U.S. without charge for the “life of the ooma Hub device” – and, if you’re anything like me, that could be a very long time (hey, I’m still playing Halo® on my original Xbox®).
The ooma Hub was selected as a top holiday gift idea for the last minute buyer! Check out the video link below.

Just for the record, please note that you do NOT need to use a computer or special phones to enjoy the ooma system. All you need is a high-speed internet connection and your regular home phones to make unlimited calls to any U.S. number without charge.

In late September, a group of us headed out east to the Javits Center in New York City to attend the annual Digital Life Conference. Not only did we give away a LOT of ooma T-shirts, but we raffled off eight ooma systems to lucky dialtone owners. We also sponsored a “call your mom for free” event at our booth so everyone was a winner. Which reminds us, the ooma Hub device took home the 2007 Digital Life Hardware Innovator Award!
